So, "ob-" is a prefix that means "in the way of" (think of "obstacle") or "against," "toward," or "on account of" ("on" or "around"). A "session" derives literally from a "sitting" but in "obsession" in particular we're looking at something akin to "obtrusive" and in the broad sense refers to a compelling volition, but narrowly (according to Webster's) "a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling" which is the sense that is used clinically.
