Lucky, Lucifer

Alan Novak: Where did the word "lucky" originate? What is the history of its use? Someone told me it's originally derived from "Lucifer". Could this be true?
f. ojeda: "Lucifer" comes from latin "lux"=light and "fero"=to bring, to carry. Nothing to do with "lucky"!
Eileen Gormly: As stated, lucky does NOT come from Lucifer. Luck comes from the Middle High German "gelucke" which means luck. Lucifer means light bearing which comes from the Latin of Luc/lux "light" + fer from ferous which means "bearing".
