|Origin of the British word 'lorry'|
I've been trying to find the origin of this word for many years now. |
Does anyone know?
||That's a good one. Webster's notes that it dates to 1908 but that the origin is unknown. I reckon that it's eponymous, but ┐for whom? would still then be an open question.|
||This (posting this second reply) is just an artificial way to keep the topic current. I, myself, am really interested in the origin of "lorry." Can anyone help? Even loose theories and anecdotes could point to something more. Please, please, please!|

||None of my references have an origin for "lorry." Even the Oxford English Dictionary says the word is of "obscure etymology."|
