Can anyone tell me what the origin of the word 'honeymoon' is?
Some texts list beverages made with honey and full-moons and such as symbolic parts of wedding ceremonies, but the fundemental idea is that the first month of a marriage is particularly sweet. One could find references to traditions which tie waiting for a month after a wedding to have another ceremony involving mead or tie-ins to vaginal secretions or menstrual cycles, etc., any or all of which may give true origins, but the only etymologically sound elements are the lunar cycle defining a duration of time and honey, the food-stuff, symbolizing sweetness or, yet more generally, a good thing.
